At Denmead Infant School, we provide a Geography curriculum that is accessible for all and encourages children to be inspired, curious and fascinated about the world around them.
We believe that high-quality Geography lessons inspire children to think and behave like Geographers where they will develop their knowledge of places that are their own, develop knowledge of their own local area and also of national and global locations.
Through our Geography projects, we link units together where children build on their previous learning throughout the school. This enables them to develop an understanding and ‘a feel’ of a place where they are then able to express opinions and give reasons for their responses. Our units are planned with ‘first hand’ experiences where possible. Geography fieldwork is a key component of our Geography curriculum and children learn best when they are developing their curiosity and questioning through investigating and exploring environments.
We will develop the children’s Geographical skills by planning purposeful outcomes which enable the children to show what they have learned. Connecting with the environment will enable them to see themselves as global citizens in an ever-changing world.
