Thank you to all of the parents and carers who were able to attend our first Maths parent event this year. If you were unable to make it, please find attached a copy of the PowerPoint and some ideas for hands on Maths activities to support your child at home. Our addition and subtraction and multiplication and division policies can be found on the website which also illustrate how we teach Maths at Denmead Infant School.
The children are following a scheme called Unlocking Letters and Sounds. They take part in daily phonics sessions which cover revising knowledge, teaching new sounds and common exception words, practising reading and writing. There are also many opportunities to learn phonics throughout the day. For Year R and Year 1 there will be flashcards sent home and videos uploaded onto Class Dojo. Learning to read is such an important skill so please do support your child as much as possible at home. We want our children to develop a life long love of reading.
It is the National Year of Reading and we are engaging in lots of fun experiences to promote reading for pleasure.
